Fundamentalism (derived from the Latin word fundamentum ‚underlaying construction‘, ‚basis‘, ‚foundation‘) is a conviction, view or mindset characterized by an uncompromizing adherence to idiological or religious conventions that impacts political actions. Originally though, Fundametalism described a branch and movement of the American Protestantism which assumes that the Bible is God‘s direct words and therefore free of errors. Thus, one should not interpret it but take it literally.
